Witchford Village HallWitchford

Gary Johns Architects have been approached by Witchford Village Hall to assist them in achieving improvements to the current facilities offered on their site located on Bedwell Hey Lane, Witchford.

Brief

The village hall broadly features a large function room, committee meeting room, full kitchen facilities, licensed bar, changing facilities for sports, limited parking for 30 vehicles on site.

The facilities are currently well used, but it is believed there is far more potential to make the venue more inviting for the wider community and local businesses.

Key Challenges and Successes

  • The building is generally tired and unattractive, and there are issues with access and parking. These issues are holding back the venue’s potential.

  • The scheme includes a new car park with over 100 spaces, which will alleviate current problems with parking on nearby streets.

Design Process

Our proposals seek to facelift the existing building through a mixture of limited single storey extensions and insulated external cladding in order to make the building more attractive.

The existing building houses a social club which historically has been run independently of the main hall. These facilities are now run together, and the proposed design brings these functions together to provide a more efficient and holistic operation.

Key to the proposals is the relocation of the sports changing facilities into a new dedicated detached building, freeing up valuable space within the existing building.

There are aspirations to hold wedding functions and business conference facilities for the businesses that primarily reside on the adjacent Grovemere Business park.
