We’re thrilled to have secured planning permission for a thoughtful adaptation project in Cornwall.
Our client, who was involved in a road traffic accident and as a result sustained an acquired brain injury, now faces mobility challenges and will require wheelchair access in the future. It’s been a real privilege to design a home that not only meets their evolving needs, but does so with dignity, beauty, and practicality.
One key feature is the integration of a lift into the main elevation—rather than being a compromise, it became a design opportunity. We’ve incorporated it into a new canopy structure, creating a sheltered, elegant entrance and allowing dry transfer from the driveway to the front door.
Another rewarding challenge has been designing a canopy link between the main house and a remote gym and carer accommodation within the existing garage. Working with considerable level differences, we drew inspiration from Japanese pergolas to develop a solution that’s both visually striking and cost-effective to build.
A huge thank you to our brilliant client and their family. And special thanks to Jenny Webster from Westcountry Case Management – your support and insight have been invaluable.
