Planning News from Ely

We’re excited to share that we’ve just submitted a planning application for the transformation of Quay House—a beautiful Grade II listed property on Ely’s historic riverside—into a new restaurant destination for the city.

This is a project close to home and close to our heart. Quay House sits proudly on the River Great Ouse, and our vision is to breathe new life into this historic building, enhancing the riverside experience for locals and visitors alike.

Having successfully adapted another Grade II listed property for our client Agellus L.T.D, at Tuddenham Mill in Suffolk, we’re bringing the same respectful, design-led approach to Ely.

Our proposals include:

✅ Sensitive re-use of the ground floor for bar and dining areas
✅ A bespoke “chef’s table” offering an immersive, intimate culinary experience
✅ A thoughtfully designed, retractable canopy for outdoor riverside dining
✅ Improved level access through a new entrance—bringing accessibility up to modern standards
✅ Minimal, reversible alterations to preserve the building’s heritage
✅ Parking strategy and sustainability measures that reflect the site’s central, walkable location

From heritage and access considerations to neighbour amenity and sustainable development—every detail has been carefully considered. The building’s past use as a restaurant and tea room has guided a design that honours its history while giving it a new future.

Ely is our home—and we’re proud to contribute to its ongoing growth as a vibrant destination.

If you’d like to know more or support the application, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
