To use a sporting analogy, sometimes you need to win “dirty”!!
We were left somewhat perplexed following a recent pre-planning application meeting when the planners were reluctant to support the designs for our rear extension to a Rectory built in the 19th Century.
You can’t see the extension from anywhere other than our client’s rear garden. There are no impacts on neighbour amenity, character of the area, or adjacent church. The planners just didn’t like the design and felt it was too bold.
Through talking next steps with our client, it became clear that the extension falls within permitted development rules (Notification of a Rear Extension to a Detached Dwelling Exceeding 4m but not exceeding 8m), and we are pleased to announce that we have just received confirmation that we do not need planning permission to build the extension.
It’s a reminder that in architecture, as in sport, success isn’t always about playing the prettiest game. It’s about knowing the rules, adapting your strategy, and making sure you come away with the win!!
